On December 6, 2011, workers of the Chung Hong Electronics factory held a meeting and decided to join the Workers' Initiative. The factory is located in near Wroclaw (Poland) in the Tarnobrzeg Special Economic Zone. There has never been any trade union in the factory before, although workers think that it is the worst workplace in the whole zone. So the fact that workers got together, self-organized and are willing to fight is already a big success.

Until the 7th of February 2011 three members of the Workers' Initiative were fired from Baltic Spinning factory. All of them are going to the labor court and demand the withdrawal of the dismissals and re-employment. For the Workers' Initiative the behavior of the Baltic Spinning management is an outrageous attack on the freedom of association in the workplace. The Workers' Initiative is going to monitor the case and inform about workers' rights violations in the Kostrzyn-Slubice Special Economic Zone.

This article strives to reinterpret the history of the Polish workers' movement of the last few decades. This attempt comes with a conviction about the sociological significance of historical and historiosophic analysis, especially in view of the presently fashionable thesis of the "end of history": a thesis, formulated in 1989 by Francis Fukuyama, according to which the final victory of capitalism has already taken place. My analysis endeavours to prove that the year 1989 had not marked a turning point in the history of the contemporary workers' movement. In my view, to explain the problems relating to the workers' movement in a suitable fashion, one needs to analyse much older trends. I shall begin my analysis from the year 1970.
